The weather is cold and there is no hope of growing anything outdoors, for the moment. The good news is that there are several vegetables you can grow indoors. I read a blog post about a week ago that outlined a list of vegetables that you can grow indoors, for FREE.
Disclaimer: You do have to buy the vegetables the first time around.
You simply cut off the base and place the freshly cut bottom in water. These plants will re-root and you can grow your own vegetables. The vegetables they found this to work on so far include: lettuce, celery, green onions, bok choy, garlic, ginger, basil, potatoes & carrots. To learn more about their research you can visit, Re-grow your own groceries.
I am trying this with cauliflower. I figure the base of cauliflower is similar to lettuce. Stay tuned to see what happens. Here is a picture about five days in. The good news is that it is still living and green. I will give you an update in about a week.
Nerdy…yes, but so fun!
